RESUMÉ - Un siècle d'immigration palestinienne au Pérou. La construction d'une ethnicité spécifique Depuis le milieu du XIXe siècle, le Pérou, comme beaucoup d'autres pays d'Amérique Latine, a fait appel à l'immigration étrangère pour résoudre des problèmes de peuplement et de déficit de main-d'uvre. Parmi les étrangers qui sont venus s'établir au Pérou, on trouve des Arabes proche-orientaux, pour la plupart originaires de Palestine et chrétiens. Les premiers immigrants palestiniens sont arrivés à la fin du XIXe siècle, à l'époque où la Palestine faisait encore partie de l'Empire ottoman, ce qui leur a valu d'être identifiés comme " turcos ", identification dans laquelle ils ne se reconnaissaient pas. Petits commerçants dans les Andes du sud au début, ils ont par la suite, en majorité, rejoint la capitale, Lima, au fur et à mesure que leurs affaires prospéraient. L'histoire mouvementée du Proche-Orient les a amenés à repenser constamment leur lien à la Palestine et au Pérou, où ils sont aujourd'hui bien insérés et durablement installés, construisant une ethnicité palestino-péruvienne spécifique. ----- ABSTRACT - A Century of Palestinian Immigration in Peru. The Construction of a Specific Ethnicity Since the mid 19th century, Peru, like many other Latin American countries, has called for foreign immigration to solve the population problems and to increase the workforce. Among the foreigners who have arrived and established themselves in Peru are Arabs from the Middle East, mostly of Palestinian and Christian origin. The first Palestinian immigrants arrived at the 19th century at a time when Palestine was still part of the Ottoman Empire, thus leading them to be labelled as the " turcos ". They started out as small traders in the southern Andes, then with the majority moving to the capital Lima, as little by little their business prospered. The unstable situation in the Middle East led them to constantly rethink the state of relations between Palestine and Peru. Today they are well integrated and firmly installed, constructing a specific Palestinian-Peruvian ethnicity. ----- RESÚMEN - Un siglo de inmigracion palestina en el Peru. La construccion de una etnicidad especifica Desde mediados del siglo XIX, el Peru, como muchos demas paises de America Latina, ha recurrido a la inmigracion extranjera para resolver problemas de poblacion y de deficit de mano de obra. Entre los extranjeros quienes se han establecido en el Peru, se encontraba arabes del Proximo Oriente, originarios de la Palestina y cristianos en cuanto a la mayor parte. Los primeros inmigrantes palestinos han llegado al final del siglo XIX, en la epoca en la cual la Palestina era todavia parte del Imperio otomano : por eso se les ha identificado como "turcos", identificacion en la cual no podian reconocerse. Al principio eran pequenos comerciantes en el sur de los Andes; despues, la mayoria se ha ido a la capital, Lima, a medida que su negocio prosperaba. La historia agitada del Proximo Oriente les ha obligado a constantemente repensar su vinculo con la Palestina y el Peru, donde hoy estan bien integrados y duraderamente instalados, construyendo una etnicidad palestino-peruana especifica.
